The Deep Business Centre (located adjacent to The Deep attraction)
This placement is suitable for students interested in the world of business. Students will assist staff in running the centre including sending faxes, photocopying, answering the telephone, setting up meeting rooms, delivering conference food and drink, manning the reception desk and computer work. Animal Science Students (Over 18 years)
Students over 18 studying marine biology, veterinary science, animal management and similar may be eligible to spend a week within our aquarist department. Please email Andrew.mcleod@thedeep.co.uk for more information. Please note we are full for this year, 2011 bookings will open in January 2011.
AS Science in the workplace
The Deep produces an education pack for upper secondary school teachers and pupils who are teaching/studying AS and A level Science. The unit studied is called 'Investigating science at work'. The pack is produced on CD at £10 per disc. A taught classroom session on this unit is available at The Deep including a visit to the exhibition and a behind-the-scenes tour of the plant room where the water treatment process is discussed. Student Information
A generic student pack is available, covering many aspects of the running and management of The Deep including s small amount of financial information. There is a marketing strategy included in the pack plus information about the animals and their husbandry. Unfortunately no further information is available outside the pack contents. Students at school/college and 18 or under
A Connexions risk assessment carried out on behalf of schools has ruled out a list of ‘no go’ activities within The Deep for all students aged 18 or under, including working with the aquarists ‘wet side’. Students aged 18 or under wishing to come to The Deep may chose a week in the attraction or in the Business Centre. Please email susan.hornby@thedeep.co.uk for more information.
