Become a citizen scientist for the day, and join us for an EGG-citing Shark Egg Case Hunt at Spurn Point, in partnership with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust! These events are free of charge for both adults and children to take part.

Help us by taking part and raising awareness of our native sharks and rays. Data recorded from these events is submitted to The Shark Trust as part of their Great Eggcase Hunt campaign, helping to pin-point exactly where sharks and skates are laying on the UK coastline and build a clearer understanding of species presence and diversity.

The dates this year are 22nd July & 2nd August 2024, running from 11am to 12:30pm

Useful Information:

  • Take a look at our Downloadable Resources for plenty of top tips, plus a shark egg case identification and recording sheet to bring with you!
  • This event takes place outside so sturdy and waterproof footwear or wellies are recommended. If it's a hot day, remember a hat and sun cream.
  • Please meet at the Spurn Discovery Centre picnic area, in plenty of time before the event kicks off at 11am.
  • There are toilets, including an accessible toilet, and baby changing facilities on site.
  • There is also a picnic area, café and shop at the site.
  • Parking is charged at £5, which helps Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to maintain the centre and look after the reserve. There is free parking for Wildlife Trust members who display their up-to-date membership card on their vehicle dashboard.
  • Unfortunately, there is no access for wheelchairs and pushchairs on the beach due to uneven terrain.
  • No dogs are permitted.

Please note, spaces are limited so bookings are required in advance.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

For questions about the event, please contact supporter.services@ywt.org.uk or call 01904 659570.
