Conserving and re-wilding a native British spider.

Overview

The Deep actively contributed to the Fen Raft Spider Conservation Project, a collaboration aimed to safeguard the Fen raft spider (Dolomedes plantarius), a rare and endangered species native to wetland habitats in the UK.

The Deep's involvement included financial support, habitat restoration efforts, husbandry research and re-wilding, and public awareness campaigns. By raising awareness about the importance of preserving wetland ecosystems and the unique species they support, The Deep hoped to inspire local communities to take action.

Through partnerships with conservation organizations and scientific research, we aimed to enhance understanding of the Fen raft spider's habitat requirements and implement effective conservation strategies. This initiative demonstrated The Deep's commitment to environmental stewardship and biodiversity conservation, highlighting the crucial role aquariums can play in protecting vulnerable species and their habitats.
