The Deep has teamed up with the Sawfish Conservation Society for the See-A-Saw campaign, aiming to raise awareness and aid global sawfish conservation. Data collected will support conservation studies and provide insights for museums.
With support from The Shark Trust, they're collaborating with researchers worldwide to understand sawfish species and genetic diversity. Sawfish are highly threatened due to fishing practices and habitat destruction, historically prized for their rostra. Though protected under regional laws and CITES, they're still used for education and display. The Sawfish Conservation Society seeks to increase awareness and facilitate communication among stakeholders. Researchers urge using old rostra and not harming sawfish.
